Bhawana Bhatta

Chairperson, Women Service Institute, Nepal
Bhawana Bhatta is a prominent women’s civil society leader in Nepal, with two decades of impactful professional and leadership experience working on human rights, democracy, peacebuilding, and gender and social inclusion. Currently, she is the Chairperson of Women Service Institute (WSI) Nepal, a women-led non-governmental organization enabling youth, women, and marginalized communities to engage in policy-making processes. She is a member of the National Development Council of the Government of Nepal, representing civil society organizations. She was an executive member of the National Youth Council, Ministry of Youth and Sports, for four years, where she worked on policy drafting, capacity building of senior bureaucrats, and the design of youth programming for Nepal, and in the Asia Region. She also served as Vice Chairperson of the NGO Federation of Nepal, an apex body of 6,500 NGOs across the country, where she led public campaigns, evidence-based advocacy, and public empowerment initiatives. She has a Master’s degree in law (LLM) with a major in Constitutional Law and International Human Rights Law, and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal

Supreme Court, Nepal
The Honorable Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal was appointed a justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal on 19 April 2019. He worked as an attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General of Nepal in 2016. He was a practicing lawyer for 23 years with Pacific Law Associates. From 2005-2006, he worked as the national legal adviser at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Justice Phuyal taught courses on jurisprudence, human rights, and banking laws to Bachelor of Laws students at the Nepal Law Campus of Tribhuban University, Nepal. He has written two books, one on refugee law, and one on police and human rights. Justice Phuyal obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in international human rights law from the University of Essex in the UK, with specialization on international human rights laws, laws of armed conflict, international criminal law, international refugee law and laws of peacekeeping operations, and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in business laws from National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, India, a Bachelor of Law (BL), from Nepal Law Campus, T.U., Kathmandu, Nepal, and an Intermediate in Law, (IL), from Mahendra Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
