HTM Internship

HTM 399R Experiential Learning in hospitality & tourism is a required internship for the HTM Bachelor of Science degree, offering 4-12 credits with 180-540 work hours.

Process

  1. Meet with Sister Taniguchi​
  2. Meet with Jeff Christensen, HTM Program Lead​
  3. Meet with Kailee Tropia, HTM Academic Advisor​
  4. Meet with Mika Konno, Career Services HTM Mentor​
  5. Choose a possible internship opportunity (should have a second option)​
  6. Make contact with potential internship supervisor(s)​
  7. Interview with possible internship supervisor (if asked to do so)​
  8. Receive offer letter from internship supervisor. Contact Career Services.​
  9. Meet with Sis. Taniguchi to develop your learning objectives.​
  10. Work with Career Services to register on Handshake, get MOU signed, complete Assumption of Risk, and get approval from ISS (if foreign student).​
  11. Get approval from the Office of the Registrar to register for HTM 399R.

Academic Advising

  • Role: Verifies that the student is eligible for the internship. ​
    • Advisors may suggest optimal timing for the internship experience. ​
    • Plans the internship and credits in the semester specified by the student.​
  • Checking eligibility criteria:​
    • Completion of at least 60+ credit hours. ​
    • Completion of at least eight credits within the field of study. This includes HTM 133, HTM 150, HTM 200, and HTM 285.​
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA in the semester prior to the internship. ​
  • Fitting internship within your 4-year allotment.
