HTM 399R Experiential Learning Internship
Internships in Hospitality and Tourism is mandatory for the HTM Bachelor of Science degree, requiring a minimum of 4 credits with 180-540 work hours.
Process
6 - 12 Months Before Your Internship
- Meet with Sister Taniguchi to discuss ideas and process.
- Meet with Jeff Christensen.
- Meet with Kailee Tropia to review your MAP.
- Research possible internship opportunities in your home country.
- Explore internship possibilities with Mika Konno.
- Contact potential internship provider(s) to send your cover letter and resume. Schedule an interview if required.
1 - 3 Months Before Your Internship
- Once you receive an offer letter from the internship provider, contact Career Services to review your offer letter for approval. International students need to visit ISS for approval.
- Meet with Sister Taniguchi to develop your learning objectives.
- Work with Career Services to complete your Handshake application, get a Memorandum of Understanding signed, complete Assumption of Risk, and get approval from ISS if you are a foreign student.
- Get approval from the Office of the Registrar to register for HTM 399R.
Requirements
To participate in the internship, academic advisors verify the student's eligibility, suggest optimal timing, plan the internship and credits for the specified semester, and ensure it fits within the student's 4-year academic plan.
Eligibility criteria:
- Completion of at least 60+ credit hours.
- Minimum 2.0 GPA in the semester prior to the internship.
- Completion of at least eight credits within the field of study. This includes HTM 133, HTM 150, HTM 200, and HTM 285.
