Organization Proposal
We propose the establishment of the Human Rights Organization under the Political Affairs Society at BYU–Hawaii. Our organization also maintains connections to the Hawaii Institute for Human Rights, under the guidance of office director Joshua Cooper.
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join the Human Rights Organization at BYU–Hawaii; it is not limited to political science students. By holding monthly meetings, we will establish connections with other human rights organizations to facilitate volunteer experiences with students involved in the human rights movement. We seek to provide opportunities for education and involvement with issues involving human rights for students. With the unique diversity of our campus, we hope to empower students to return to their home countries with the knowledge of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which will allow them to aid their government in the improvement of the quality of life for all individuals. Along with this knowledge, students that engage in the work with the Human Rights Organization at BYU–Hawaii will establish connections and relationships with other NGOs, thus allowing for future volunteer work opportunities and career possibilities.
We seek to give BYUH a voice in the international campaign for human rights. With every student’s involvement in our organization, we hope to provide a platform for promoting human dignity and securing the economic, cultural, and social rights of individuals everywhere.
